The Pilot in Kaunas (Lithuania)

Last week of June, 2017 the project Real Life partner from Lithuania – VSI HITECO – organised the pilot training in Kaunas Juvenile Remand Prison-Correction House. The trainings were leaded by Ed Santman (Changes & Chances, NL) and Hendrik Jan Trooster (CLICK F1, NL) together with the local mentors from the prison-correction house and partly assisted by the partners from Italy and Turkey. Ten inmates of age 18-19 years took part in the five days training course, were the games aimed at improving the social and employability skills.
The students were greatly enjoying the unusual training lessons – using computer games and active participatory methods for educational purposes. The were building own avatar, got introduced to the Seven pathways, Big 5, 16 Personality test, Social Media Spy, A Second Chance and other digital and non digital exercises, where instantly participated in ‘hands-on’ sessions. Both mentors and students agree that the contemporary learning tools as computers and computer games can make learning more interesting and engaging. The participants’ neutral attitude towards learning changed to very positive during the sessions and many of them stated that they learned much more then expected, and the sessions were good as they were ‘about us’ – the real situations usually faced by the juvenile with behaviour problems.
The Lithuanian partner expresses special thanks for the support The Prison Department under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic Lithuania.
